Sea Shanties Strike a Chord at Newport Boat Club
Newport Boat Club was alive with music, laughter and community spirit on 18 July as the Hay Shantymen dropped anchor for a memorable evening as part of the Club's 50th Anniversary celebrations.Newport Boat Club was alive with music, laughter and community spirit on 18 July as the Hay Shantymen dropped anchor for a memorable evening as part of the Club's 50th Anniversary celebrations. Resplendent in their distinctive fishermen's smocks, the talented crew delivered a rousing performance of traditional and contemporary sea shanties to a packed clubhouse. Their first-ever visit to Newport proved a tremendous success, helping to raise an outstanding £1,800. In previous years the Hay Shantymen have supported Tenby RNLI, but this year they chose to raise funds for Cardigan RNLI. Throughout the weekend, dedicated RNLI volunteers joined the singers with bucket collections at three venues, and thanks to the incredible generosity of audiences, the weekend total reached an impressive £3,900. A huge thank you to all our members, guests and volunteers for giving the Hay Shantymen such a warm Newport welcome and for supporting this fantastic cause so generously. Together, you've helped make a wonderful weekend even more memorable.
