Commodore's newsletter July 2023
COMMODORE’S NEWSLETTER JULY 2023
Dear member,
As our peak summer season approaches, I’m sharing a few updates to help you make the best of your Club.
We will be open from 12:00 to 11:00pm seven days a week from Monday 17th July. If there is no trade the bar may close earlier.
Pasta a Mano and Cooney Island Ice Cream are with again this summer, operating seven days a week, and in addition Cig Lodor will be running a burger BBQ on Fridays and Saturdays. Upcoming events will be posted on our website: www.newportboatclub.co.uk/
AGM
Your AGM is on at 6:30pm on Thursday 24th August in the Commodore’s lounge. The notice of the meeting, agenda, and associated papers will be mailed out to members by 25th July. This is an opportunity for me to encourage you to consider what you might bring to the running of the Club. There are 13 voluntary positions on the Management Committee, these are rarely all full, we generally operate on 8- 10 members. All officers (7 of these 13) must stand down each year, so all these posts become vacant yearly. Other committee members are elected for 3 years but may stand down before then.
I announced in my previous newsletter I would not be standing for Commodore again. This year there will be others like myself who will not be standing for election again. So please do not assume that someone else will take a position needed on Management Committee to carry on the excellent work that is done to run Newport Boat Club. The Club is “purring” along brilliantly, the finances are sound and annual accounts will come out with the AGM papers. Operational procedures are up to date and we are now incorporated, which keeps members and NBC safe.
Please visit the website, or contact any committee member, face to face or by e-mail if you wish to find out more about the voluntary work of the management Committee; it is vital to the running of your Club.
Sailing and Boating
The Club hosted the annual Welsh Sea Rowing League ‘Dinas Head Challenge’ on the Saturday 1st of July. Despite the sea conditions being challenging the race went ahead with 14 teams from up and down the Welsh Coast. The Sailing and Boating Calendar will be published shortly on the website and a printed version will be on the notice board with hard copies available from the bar. For other NBC waterside information, including information on weather, tides, and boat parking, please visit our website.
I hope you will continue to enjoy all that Club Newport Boat Club offers, and that you are able to visit this summer. I look forward to seeing you at the Club!
With all best wishes
